Arellano U continues to live up to its lofty billing as a genuine title contender in the 92nd NCAA seniors basketball tourney, winning its last six games in convincing fashion to stay hot on the heels of pace-setting San Beda.
The Arellano University Chiefs achieved a milestone Friday afternoon.
The Chiefs were able to notch its sixth straight win, the longest winning streak of the school since joining the league back in 2009, after a wire-to-wire win against the College of Saint Benilde Blazers, 78-69, in the NCAA Season 92 Seniors Basketball Tournament.
This is not yet the season to be the champion.
After a promising performance throughout Season 92, giving spark to the hope that it would bring the trophy to Arellano University this year, the AU Chiefs bowed to the San Beda Red Lions after losing the second game in the 2-out-3 championship series on October 11, 2016 held at the Mall of Asia Arena.
This is San Beda’s 20th championship in its 89 years in the NCAA, and the second time the AU Chiefs got the 2nd place title in its 7 years in the same league.
The Arellano University Chiefs almost blew a double-digit lead late in the game but the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Golden Stags could not fight off the tall Chief frontline as Arellano extended its streak to five games, 89-84, Tuesday afternoon at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
BACK IN BLACK. Rookie Aaron Fermin was a big part of how Arellano avoided their first losing skid in the season.

The Chiefs continue its surge to the top of the NCAA ladder.
The Arellano University Chiefs broke its three-game losing streak to the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights, taking an 83-74 wire to wire win to send the defending champions to the brink of elimination Friday evening at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
Stopping Arellano U’s prized backcourt duo of Jiovani Jalalon and Kent Salado dead on their tracks in transition could have been part of St. Benilde guard Gerald Castor’s defensive plans.
