Cholo Martin is the New AU Senior Basketball Varsity Team's Coach

By content-admin, 25 October, 2018

Bringing with himĀ  more than fifty years of basketball experience , RamonĀ  ā€œCholoā€ Martin was named Head Coach ofĀ  the senior basketball team of Arellano University , The Chiefs.

Coach CholoĀ  played basketballĀ  in his high school days at theĀ  Malate Catholic School, and was given the Outstanding MalateanĀ  Award in sports ;Ā  inĀ  college he played in the San Beda team in the NCAA and contributedĀ  to the team’s championship in the league for two years . He also played in commercial teamsĀ  after college but his basketball careerĀ  flourished in coachingĀ  inĀ  commercial teams here and abroad, and lately in colleges and universities. As assistant coach he worked with basketball coach luminariesĀ  such as Nat Canson, Turo Valenzona, Francis Rodriguez, Norman Black,Ā  Alfrancis Chua, and Boyet Fernandez.

It is interesting to note that his appointment as head coach of The Chiefs brings him full circle toĀ  Arellano University. In 1982, barely out of college he was assigned head coach of the Arellano Flaming Arrows, AU’s varsity team at that time, earning for AU the championship in the Metro Manila and national Inter-collegiate basketball competitions. Hopefully, at the time that Arellano University will host the NCAA Season 95,Ā Ā  he would give The ChiefsĀ  the championship on his return to the university.

At the moment, he is the head coach of The Pasay Voyagers in the MaharlikaĀ Ā  Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL)

He has brought with him Yvan Ludovice and JayPee Balencion as Assistant Coaches.
