The Arellano University Office for Student Affairs (OSA) officially commenced its highly anticipated year-end program, the 3rd Chiefs Awards Night, last May 22, 2026. Held at the AU-Juan Sumulong Campus Little Theater, the event brought together university officials, student leaders, and honorees for an evening dedicated to celebrating academic and leadership excellence.
Mrs. Abegail H. Cayco-Lee, MBA, AVP for Marketing, opened the evening with a powerful message addressing today's social realities: “Perhaps now more than ever, we must continue to pray for our country, hope for better leadership, and most importantly, commit ourselves to becoming better than what disappoints us.” She then challenged the leaders to use their new titles for a higher purpose, closing with a final inspiring note: “May these titles open doors to greater opportunities, higher purpose, and spaces where your light can shine—not for recognition alone, but to inspire others to rise with you.”
Following her remarks, Ms. Ma. Antonette H. Cayco, RPM, Technical Staff-Digicom, delivered a deeply moving keynote address. She shared the inspiring story of her own mother—a former Arellano University working student from Batanes who overcame poverty to eventually serve as a three-term provincial Governor. Using this personal legacy to remind the audience that one's background does not limit their destiny, Ms. Cayco challenged the student achievers:
“If you are privileged, extend a helping hand. If you are struggling, do not give up. One day, all your sacrifices, prayers, and hard work will make sense. Soon enough, life will work out for you.”
Adding to the momentum, Ms. Sonia M. Dignadice, RN, MAN, Director of Alumni Services and Job Placement, focused her message on the true essence of leadership. She reminded the student achievers that their impact extends far beyond awards and certificates, stating, “Your greatest achievement is not the award you receive today, but the lives you have touched along the way.” Dignadice emphasized that leadership is not about power, position, or personal gain, but rather about integrity, responsibility, and service. Challenging the student achievers to look toward the future, she added, “You are not just leaders of today—you are future builders of our communities, our profession, and our nation,” before leaving them with the powerful reminder, “Once a Chief, always a leader.”
Mr. Sherwin Punla, LPT, MBA, Dean for Student Affairs, then delivered the State of the Dean Address. He highlighted the milestones, challenges, and successful initiatives championed by the student body over the past fiscal year, underscoring the university’s dedication to holistic student development.
The main highlight of the night was the Presentation of Awards, honoring outstanding student leaders, top-performing organizations, and achievers who have brought immense pride to Arellano University.
The event drew to a historic close with the State of the Council Address, marking the official leadership turn-over for the Arellano University Supreme Student Council (AUSSC).
Krizel Mie M. Yano, the Outgoing AUSSC President (2025–2026), delivered her valedictory address, expressing deep gratitude to her executive board and the student body for a fruitful term.
Right after, the torch was officially passed to Dhennis H. Castañeda, the AUSSC President-Elect (2026–2027), who shared an inspiring vision of unity, proactive leadership, and amplified student representation for the upcoming year.
