Arellano University Manila as the only University in the NCR to Rank Top 8 in the NLE 2021 By: Ma. Antonette H. Cayco The annual National Nursing Licensure Examination (NLE) last July 3-4, 2021 landed Arellano University, Manila, College of Nursing in the top 8 nursing schools in the country and the only nursing school based in the National Capital Region to do so as per the rankings of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). The passing performance of the three Arellano University nursing schools for first-time takers in the NLE last July 3-4, 2021 was: Arellano University, Pasig, 100% (consistently 100% passing for the last 3 years); Arellano University, Pasay, 94.12%; and Arellano University, Manila, 93.33%. All information was gathered by the Arellano University College of Nursing. Five (5) of the University’s students from their respective branches landed in the Top 20, namely, Angelica Vallejo (Top 14 from AU-Pasig), Raigene Ivee V. Busi (Top 18 from AU-Manila), Shaina S. Aberin (Top 23 from AU-Pasig), Patricia Lae DC. Pineda (Top 26 from AU-Manila), and Andrecar Mensi (Top 26 from AU-Pasay). As per the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Arellano University has an open admission policy in accepting students. With this, the college of nursing provides and implements various innovative teaching and learning strategies that build and strengthen the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of the students. Traditionally, Arellano University has been committed to supporting and upgrading its programs in the health sciences with the College of Nursing being granted a Level 3 accreditation by PACUCOA. To support and assist students, especially those who are having difficulty in their studies, an academic enhancement program is provided where problem-based learning and case scenarios are used to enhance the students’ decision-making and critical thinking skills. To prepare students for their board exams, they are taught test-taking strategies using board-type questions for better preparation and engagement complemented by higher-order approaches (i.e. the Objective Structured Clinical Enhancement, or the OSCE, and the Virtual Clinical Assessment Program, or the VCAP) to develop their psychomotor skills needed in their clinical formation.  Throughout the years, the Arellano University College of Nursing continues to upgrade and equip the faculty and students with the expertise and skills needed to bring them up to world-class nursing standards to be competitive in the global practice of their profession. A globally competitive online Pegasus Learning Management System providing the laboratory and clinical learning environment using the internationally renowned digital simulation science laboratory, Labster, is used in place of face-to-face learning and experience brought about by the limitations and constraints imposed by the Covid 19 pandemic on the national educational system. Students of the health sciences are now badly needed because of the acute demand for their services created by the devastation on the global health systems by the Covid 19 pandemic. They are now the most vital and critical manpower needed to help save all the countries in the world from sickness, death, and total collapse. In its own modest way, Arellano University through its schools in the health sciences and nursing continues to make its decent contribution to the preservation of life and continuance of mankind for the country and the world.
