July 7, 2019 will be remembered in the NCAA as an afternoon bursting with colors, sounds and pageantry - the Opening Ceremony of Season 95 with its spectacular production numbers unrivaled in NCAA history, projecting the season’s theme: Kaisa sa Pagkakaiba.
Philippine folklore and art met on stage with Higantes (from Angono, Rizal) parading on stage; Roman soldiers fighting with natives (Moriones of Marinduque); a lady and her man communicating their affection while moving on poles held shoulder high (from Mindanao); exuberant boys and girls cavorting around trees with kiping leaves (Pahiyas festival of Quezon Province); maglalatik and bulaklakan dancers doing patterns; tinikling done in an off-beat music, and many more – with the dancers and singers wearing loud colored blouses, shirts, bands, sarongs, headdresses, denim pants and rubber sneakers, dancing in modern beat made with traditional musical instruments.
And then the iconic Bamboo came on stage, singing his medley, which later was joined by several thousand voices from the audience, as aerial dancers dangled in rings suspended from the ceiling.
Different cultural practices, different beliefs and traditions presented in songs and dances, woven into one magnificent production number. It truly expressed the NCAA Season 95 theme, Kaisa sa Pagkakaiba: ten schools with different goals and principles bound together by a sports league, the NCAA.
Somewhere towards the end of the production number, Arellano University Chairman and CEO Francisco Paulino V. Cayco announced the opening of NCAA Season 95. Being one of the two newest members of the league, Arellano University, in its tenth year of membership in the league is hosting, for the first time, the NCAA Season 95.
