AU Alumnus Reaps Medals in World Championships of Performing Arts

Aljun Cayawan, a Bachelor of Business Administration graduate of Jose Abad Santos Campus, Arellano University in Pasay City, brought home a rich haul of medals from the 22nd Annual World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) held in Long Beach, California, USA on July 6-15, 2018. He was a member of Team Pilipinas, competing with artists from more than fifty countries.

Aljun won a total of 14 medals, the highest number of medals received by a member of the Team Pilipinas. He won these in various categories and levels of competition, mostly in singing and in modeling, where he got a gold medal as a Grand Finalist. WCOPA became a familiar competition in the Philippines when Jed Madela, popular singer and TV personality won the first Asian Grand Champion award.

As a Manobo Prince from Sibagat, Agusan Del Sur, Aljun Cayawan is also known as Datu Agong. He has been actively promoting the Manobo culture, and has undertaken activities to secure assistance for the education of Manobo children.

Team Pilipinas won 286 medals & plaques in the 2018 WCOPA Competitions.
