For the second year in a row, the Arellano University College of Nursing (AUSN) was granted recognition by the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) as ranking among the top ten nursing schools in the country with 50 or more examinees. Complementing this achievement was landing a top 8 board placer among the top 10 topnotchers last year and a repetition of the same feat this year of landing another among the top 9. Once again this year, in the May 29-30, 2022 Nurse Licensure Examinations (NLE), the roster of outstanding new nurses were led by the following who passed the examinations with distinction:

The sterling performance of Arellano University’s Nursing Schools, is the result of its being granted accreditation status by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA), a distinction which has been earned and achieved by the 3 branches of the University, namely, Arellano University Juan Sumulong (Main campus) with a Level III 1st Re-Accredited Status, Arellano University Jose Abad Santos campus and Arellano University Andres Bonifacio campus with a Level II Accredited Status.
As the pandemic brought forth massive changes in the education system, the University adapted to the new environment by integrating its nursing curriculum and delivering various learning approaches through its digital online Pegasus Learning Management System. The science laboratory was simulated through a three dimensional software called LABSTER which generates a real laboratory experience which allows students to perform experiments and practice their skills in a fun and risk-free learning environment.
Through adaptation using digital forms of technology combined with the strength of its nursing curriculum and faculty, the AU College of Nursing succeeded in maintaining its transformative mechanisms that brought about quality outcomes. The Related Learning Experience (RLE) or the clinical exposure/practice opened the opportunities for developing practice skills and competencies captured through current and emerging trends through partnerships with government base hospitals such as the Armed Forces of the Philippines Memorial Medical Center, Veterans Memorial Hospital, San Lazaro Hospital and Quirino Memorial Medical Center. In addition to this, affiliations with private and tertiary hospitals accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), an international certification body were worked out with the Makati Medical Center and The Medical City to provide nursing students exposure and training in world class facilities.
Further to this, supplemental methodologies and digital platforms were provided to augment the needs of the students to practice their decision making skills, critical thinking ability, and skills enhancement through the Virtual Clinical Assessment Program (VCAP), ATI Virtual Simulations, Labster, On-Line Assessment, and Objective Structured Clinical Assessment Program.
The International Nursing Program (INP), a new world recognized nursing program of the University, is offered as another alternative using a curriculum that is accepted and recognized by AU’s partner schools abroad, namely; Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia and Alderson Broadus in West Virginia, USA. Students taking the INP study for the first two or three years in Arellano University and go abroad to finish their nursing degrees in the partner universities in West Virginia, USA or Perth, Australia, where their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is awarded.
AU College of Nursing, Juan Sumulong Campus was deputized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to offer the ETEEAP for the BS Nursing program in 2016. ETEEAP is an educational assessment program which recognizes knowledge, skills, and prior learning obtained by the student applicant from a non-formal and informal educational experience such as work.
Social responsibility and community nursing exposes the nursing students to different community development projects through partnerships or Memorandum of Agreements with the Kapampangan Development Foundation (KDF) and Jose Datu Memorial Hospital in Pampanga. The University also has an adopted community in Pangil, Laguna, and San Miguel, Bulacan. The strong community involvement exposes students and staff to encourage social awareness and responsibility.
Public Private Partnership (PPP) has been instituted by the College of Nursing to augment and successfully implement community initiatives. Projects such as feeding programs, medical-surgical missions doing cataract screening and surgery, Operation Smile (for hair lip surgery), tree planting, etc. are anchored under the PPP. Alumni participation for these projects are also encouraged.
The strength of the AU College of Nursing has evolved through the years through various transformations brought about by the dictates of the changing environment and landscape that are adversely affecting human health and development. The nursing programs have been driven towards being centered on total development involving the human person and communities. It has taken off and expanded its consciousness of relevance towards a wider world view cognizant of global standards and demands.
