Political Science students of Arellano University had a thought-provoking afternoon with Atty. Jose Manuel “Chel” Icasiano Diokno and Atty. Luke Espiritu during a colloquium on human rights on September 8, 2022.
The former is a well-known educator and human rights advocate; he discussed fundamental constitutional rights of Filipinos and their significance in protecting us from abuse and promoting our welfare. On the other hand, Atty. Luke Espiritu, a well-known labor rights activist, gave instances of the repressive rule of the governing class towards the minority, and the need to protect this group and empowering them.
The two-hour discussion and question-and-answer portion left the students with greater interest on human rights, which hitherto, were too serious a topic for them.
