2nd Annual Quantum Clash: A Math and Physics Showdown

On April 22, 2024, Arellano University – Andres Bonifacio Campus made its mark in the world of mathematics and physics. Alongside 78 other public and private schools, Arellano University sent a formidable team of six delegates to compete in the “2nd Annual Quantum Clash: A Math and Physics Showdown,” hosted by the Math and Physics Collaborative Society at the Technological Institute of the Philippines – Manila.

The event brought together some of the brightest young minds in the field, challenging them to answer complex problems in a mind-gritting quiz bee and demonstrate their prowess in both mathematics and physics in an amazing race. Arellano University’s team showcased exceptional talent, determination, and teamwork throughout the competition.

The Arellano University – Andres Bonifacio Campus delegation comprised six outstanding students, each representing their institution with pride:

  1. Jaybee P. Raquel (12 – STEM 17)
  2. Aaron Justin Lei B. Alay (12 – STEM 7)
  3. Lorraine Claire F. Diongco (12 – STEM 27)
  4. John Stephen C. Chessman (12 – STEM 1)
  5. Calla Mariz C. Elmido (12 – STEM 1)
  6. Marquin Lee B. Ladim (12 – STEM 19)

Arellano University – Andres Bonifacio Campus was also lucky to have two committed mentors, Mr. Francis Alfred F. Suyod and Mr. Jhallene Laurenz C. Cequeña, who helped them through the rigorous preparation process. These engaging coaches imparted their knowledge in physics and mathematics, making sure the team was ready for every challenge.

In the initial phase of the competition, known as Quantumania, a quiz bee-style setup unfolded. Among the six delegates, only three—Jaybee, Aaron, and Lorraine—were allowed to participate. Their performance was commendable, with the team even advocating for a revised answer during the average round. As the competition concluded, the team secured a spot in the finals, achieving an impressive 10th place out of all the other schools. This achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of the team members, as well as the guidance of their coaches.

In the climactic finale of the competition, aptly named “Quantum Leap,” teams, now consisting of all six delegates, embarked on an exhilarating Amazing Race-style adventure. Their mission is to tackle experiments, explain the scientific concepts, and conquer each station—all against the relentless ticking of the clock. As the stakes escalated, so did their determination. The six representatives from Arellano University – Andres Bonifacio Campus showcased their wits, weaving together talents and intellect to determine concepts, manipulate variables, and create amazing simple machines. Their run was tiring yet adrenaline-fueled which made them finish some of the stations before the time ran up. And when the competition was settled, they achieved an impressive 23rd place, leaving an indelible mark on the scientific battleground.

In the awarding and conclusion of the event, the delegates from Arellano University – Andres Bonifacio Campus stood on the precipice of anticipation. With full confidence and pride, they stepped forward to claim their certificate of participation which serves as the testament of their outstanding performance.

The placement of the Arellano University – Andres Bonifacio Campus is as follows:

  • Quantumania – 10th Place
  • Quantum Leap – 23rd Place
  • Overall – 22nd Place

The Andres Bonifacio Campus was also able to secure a photo with their co-Chiefs from Jose Abad Campus which made the moment more unforgettable as the hall was filled with the essence of One Arellano spirit.
