The Florentino Cayco Memorial School of Graduate Studies-Nursing was established on June 13, 1978. It aims to prepare individuals in the nursing profession to become resourceful and competent in the delivery of health care services to meet the requirements of a growing nation and the modern world according to the clinical field of specialization. Administration and Supervision in Nursing
Course content

This clinical specialization prepares the nurse to participate in all phases in the administrator’s role and functions in both nursing school and/or nursing service setting. It prepares the nurse to utilize theories, principles, and tools required for an effective administrative leadership including ethical, legal, and professional as basis in the practice of administration and supervision in nursing.

 

This program will take 5 semesters or 2 1/2 to 3 years, a maximum of 12 units and a minimum of 6 units subject enrolled in every semester. 

 

Admission Requirements 

Submission of Transcript of Records for Evaluation 

  1. To qualify for admission, the students must obtain a general average of 2.0 or 86% or B. Students whose general average is lower than 2.0 or 86% or B will be admitted on probationary/temporary basis. Probationary students should maintain good academic standing for 2 semesters to be on regular status; 
  2. Must be a licensed professional nurse; 
  3. Must have at least one (1) year’s work experience in any setting;

 

Submission of the following if the student meets the aforementioned qualifications: 

  1. PRC license
  2. Original Transcript of Record
  3. Permit to study, if a government employee
  4. Certificate of employment, if from private agencies
  5. Affidavit of Non-Employment, if not employed
  6. Marriage contract, if married. 

 

For Transferees:

  1. Honorable Dismissal

Foreign Students

Community Health Nursing
Course content

This specialization focuses on the development of the competencies of a community health nurse in providing care of individuals, families, and population groups including community organizing. Emphasis is placed on the development of leadership and management skills necessary to function effectively as a community health nurse. The students and this specialization are expected to demonstrate enhanced skills in responding to the rapidly changing environment that affects community health practice and services.

 

This program will take 5 semesters or 2 1/2 to 3 years, a maximum of 12 units and a minimum of 6 units subject enrolled in every semester.

Medical-Surgical Nursing
Course content

This clinical specialization focuses on the care of adults with a variety of medical and surgical issues and/or clients who are preparing for recovery from surgery. The medical-Surgical nursing specialization provides an advanced and specialized knowledge-base in preparing nurses to develop expertise in their practice. It prepares nurses to have  advanced organizational skills in prioritization, assessment and communication skills based on their knowledge about advanced pathophysiology and advanced pharmacotherapeutics, and are leaders in coordinating care among the inter and intra professional health care team.

 

This program will take 5 semesters or 2 1/2 to 3 years, a maximum of 12 units and a minimum of 6 units subject enrolled in every semester.

Maternal and Child Nursing
Course content

This clinical specialization equips the graduate with the necessary advanced nursing knowledge to practice as clinician and leaders within the relevant health care setting dealing with pregnant mothers and children. Graduates are expected to, possess advanced critical thinking skills, clinical expertise, and leadership attributes in their practice setting including reproductive health centers, manage the care of complex and or vulnerable populations in the area of maternal, reproductive  and child health. 

 

This program will take 5 semesters or 2 1/2 to 3 years, a maximum of 12 units and a minimum of 6 units subject enrolled in every semester.

Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing
Course content

Through an in-depth understanding of human behavior, the student is expected to apply the necessary competencies for expert, continuous and integrated care of patients with behavioral and pyscho-pathologic problems in a variety of setting in homes, schools, community, hospitals, disaster areas, and other establishments utilizing the therapeutic use of self in the care of her clients either in the hospitals or community. The student is expected to initiate and perform activities associated with the supportive and re-educative type of psychotherapy be it individual or group psychotherapy. 

 

This program will take 5 semesters or 2 1/2 to 3 years, a maximum of 12 units and a minimum of 6 units subject enrolled in every semester.

Occupational Health Nursing
Course content

This course aims to develop professionals in the field of occupational health and safety (OHS) that focuses on the promotion, prevention and restoration of health within the context of a safe and healthy environment. It emphasizes the occupational health nursing roles, functions and responsibilities within the framework of broad and comprehensive occupational health systems. It prepares the candidate to design and implement an occupational management system based on organizational needs and occupational health and safety (OHS) standards. It enables the candidate to develop professional skills in risk assessment, hazard identification, accident/incident investigations and undertake research in the workplace. This course integrates knowledge in the behavioral sciences, industrial hygiene, safety, nursing theories, toxicology and epidemiology while applying these within a program development and management framework.

Goal

The primary goal of the Master of Arts in Nursing Program is to prepare nurses for advanced nursing practice, imbued with a leadership role in any of the following fields of specialization as their major:
