The University Graduate School, now called FLORENTINO CAYCO MEMORIAL SCHOOL OF GRADUATE STUDIES, was granted government recognition for Masteral level in 1947 and for the Doctoral level in 1969. 

The Board of Directors of Philippine Association of Colleges and University Commission on Accreditation, Inc. (PACUCOA) and The Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP) have granted the Level III Reaccredited status for the Doctor of Education and MAEd programs effective April 2019-April 2024.

Doctor of Educational Major in Educational Leadership and Management (Ed.D.)
Course content

As the global information economy evolves, school organizations are becoming increasingly changing, and innovative organizational models and practices have become crucial to successfully achieve educational leadership and management competencies. Hence, the Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Management program is designed to serve these needs. 

As program outcome expectations, school leaders and managers must be able to (1) facilitate and contextualize school operations and instruction in diverse situations to be able prepare students for jobs in a global, information-based economy, (2) lead their schools and classrooms as well as their systems effectively and efficiently in the face of severe political, economic, and health pressures, and finally (3) produce all other outcomes traditionally expected from educational institutions. 

After completing the program, Ed.D. graduates may seek professional opportunities as Basic Education school principals, college professors or college deans of education, public school administrators and supervisors, schools’ superintendents, and bureau directors.
 

Requirements:

  1. Holds a Master’s degree in Education
  2. For Non-Education Graduates, must take at least 18 units of Professional Education Subjects.

Master of Arts in Psychology
Course content

The Master of Arts in Psychology program aims to provide graduate students with high level training in teaching, research, and professional practice in psychology. Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. Psychology as a discipline and professional practice contributes to national development through basic and applied research and interventions aimed at solving problems and promoting optimal development and functioning at the individual, family, group, organizations/institutions community, and national levels. The graduate program in psychology provide high level training in teaching and research and in the practice of clinical, educational, industrial and other fields of the profession in psychology.

(M.A.Ed.) Major: Early Childhood Education
Course content

The Master of Arts in Education major in Early Childhood Education is designed to prepare students who are interested in acquiring relevant competencies and furthering their current expertise in preschool education.  It aims to produce graduates who are competent in providing quality education and care to young learners (birth to 8 years old) to promote their holistic development.  The major also prepares students for leadership roles in early learning.  As an early childhood practitioner, the student is expected to master the content and pedagogy in child development, foundations of ECE, curriculum designs & programs, instructional practices, trends & issues, and research. The MAEd-ECE program takes 2 years to complete.

Course content

The program prepares students to meet the professional demands of school leadership. Also, provides the students with knowledge, competencies, skills, moral and spiritual values, and a strong sense of responsibility derived from strong comprehension of theoretical and conceptual foundations, coupled with related principles in managing educational institutions, both public and private which includes: the curriculum development; teaching and learning; supervision of instruction; educational research and evaluation; innovations in education; and the entire school system.

Course content

English

The Master of Arts in Education major in English is a graduate program that provides a student the mastery of content and pedagogy in the teaching and learning process in language and literature for elementary, secondary and tertiary level. Its graduate is expected to have a deep knowledge of the discipline towards achieving deeper understanding and facility of language and literature skills.  In the workplace, a graduate is also expected to be highly specialized and much more advanced specific to discipline, a research-oriented, responsive and pragmatic. Thus, the program provides an avenue for a graduate to demonstrate skills and competencies necessary and valuable to current educational set-up/system in the global village.

 

Filipino

The student graduate of MAEd in Filipino should mastered the content and pedagogy in the teaching -learning process of Filipino meant for the elementary, junior, senior high school likewise for the tertiary level. The teachers are expected to have excellence in the use of Filipino in writing and in speaking and learned how to appreciate Philippine literature in the diversity of learning.

 

Guidance & Counseling

The Master of Arts in Education major in Guidance and Counseling is designed to prepare students for the independent and licensed professional practice of guidance and counseling. The major offers students a solid foundation in the field of guidance and counseling that focuses on evidence-based practices. Graduates are seen to be able to extend assistance to the client by way of facilitating the client to face problem and possibly decide on the most appropriate solution to the problem from a set of alternatives. As a guidance counselor the student is expected to have mastered the art of guiding the individual, how to overcome problems and the likes to live and enjoy a better life.

After completion of the degree, the graduate will be qualified to take the board examination for Registered Guidance Counselors (RGC) as mandated by RA 9258

(M.A.Ed.) Major: Mathematics
Course content

The course is intended primarily for teachers of high school and tertiary levels whose seeking a mathematics content in a higher level.  It is also intended to provide training to teachers of solving advanced mathematics problems and for teachers pursuing the research career path in mathematics education.  The students graduate in MAEd in Mathematics should have mastered and can teach every math subjects in the most logical, easy, and has practical use in the real world.  In this course, variety of topics will be discussed including specialized topics like Number Theory, Combinatorics, Euclidean and Non-Euclidean Geometry, higher Algebra, and the latest problem solving strategies with the integration of use of the latest technology in math.

Course content

Psychology

The Master of Arts in Education major Psychology program aims to develop competencies of education professionals and others who work in the field related to learning and human development, to undertake research in specific areas within the broad field of educational science and practice which includes academic achievement gaps, exceptional learners or children with special needs, personality and adjustment of students, behavioral and social-emotional development, mental health awareness, and human development in relation to learning acquisition.  Graduates of are expected to be exemplary teachers in the secondary, a researcher or a tertiary level faculty of psychology.

 

Special Education

The SPED program is designed for educators to acquire mastery in the identification of exceptionalities and of children with special needs with the end in view of allowing educators to identify necessary placement of learners and the corresponding program that will promote maximum development. 

The program also allow educators to acquire knowledge of psychometrics and other diagnostic tools which are relevant in handling exceptional/special children. In addition, the program prepare educators in working collaboratively with other professionals in the management of clients. Significant skills expected for graduates of this program to demonstrate are :a) mastery in the preparation of Individualized Educational Plan(IEP) especially designed based on the need of each client; b) mastery in preparing clients for inclusion program; and c) expertise in the management of educational institutions for special children.
